Tipping the Velvet

“Tipping The Velvet” by Sara Waters, adapted by Laura Wade.

Based on Sarah Waters’ original novel of the same name, our story is set in 1887. Nancy Astley sits in the audience at her local music hall: she doesn’t know it yet, but the next act on the bill will change her life.
Tonight is the night she’ll fall in love… with the thrill of the stage – and with Kitty Butler, a girl who wears trousers.

Giddy with desire and hungry for experience, Nancy follows Kitty to London where unimaginable adventures await.

The Rose Theatre

Home to The MGA Academy’s School of Acting, The Rose Theatre Edinburgh was originally purpose-built as a church in 1912, built on the site of an earlier pedimented 19th Century chapel. After various renovations, the building was developed into a four-storey theatre by Danish ballet dancer, Peter Schaufuss. The large venue offers four unique performance spaces, including a 300 seat main theatre, a basement studio theatre for 120, a 100 seat studio, and an attic with a capacity of 50. It opened officially in 2017 in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
